SUN Expands with a New Sector for Veterinary Nurses

The Nordic Union of Service and Employment Sectors (SUN) is expanding with the addition of a new sector representing veterinary nurses, also known as animal care assistants (dyreplejere). This marks a significant step in strengthening the representation of professionals within the veterinary field across the Nordic region.

The new sector will hold its inaugural meeting in Copenhagen on April 3, bringing together representatives from several trade unions to establish a common platform for veterinary nurses. The organizations representing this new branch include Veterinærsygeplejersker under Serviceforbundet (Denmark), Fagforbundet (Norway), NTL (Norway), Havnar Arbeidskvinnufelag (Faroe Islands), and SACO (Sweden).

While the new sector already has strong representation from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and the Faroe Islands, Iceland and Finland are not currently represented.

With this expansion, SUN now consists of four sectors: property, cleaning, security, and veterinary nursing. SUN’s mission remains focused on improving working conditions, securing fair wages, and ensuring professional development opportunities for its members across these industries.
